JR’s One-Of-A-Kind Infiniti G37
As part of the SEMA Show’s finale, the designers and organizers at the famed Gran Turismo video game franchise have announced car owner JR Rocha and his 2008 Infiniti G37 as the winner of the coveted “Best of Show” award. Now in its sixth year running, the Gran Turismo Awards give exhibited cars the chance to be featured in the hugely successful Gran Turismo driving simulation game on PlayStation 3.
Before all the SEMA hoopla began in the desert of Las Vegas, exhibitors were given the opportunity to enter their cars in the competition. Five categories — Best Domestic, European Import, Hot Rod, Japanese Import, Truck/SUV — were judged by various automotive journalists who looked for the rides with the best balance of style, performance and speed into one package. The “Best in Show” award was determined by the creator of the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi.
As seen in the image, Rocha’s G37 is anything but a simple garage modified ride. A complete rebuild of the VQ37VHR engine was needed in order for the motor to withstand the force-induced power coming from dual Nismo GT-R turbos. The twin snails running at 10.11 psi are cooled by a more efficient V-Mount dual-intercooler setup, with three additional oil coolers joining it up front to keep all lubricants in check. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. The list could go on and on, but if you’re interested in this definitely unique — and very expensive custom build — check it out in this video here.
For his hard work in creating his car, Rocha’s G37 will be included in the hundreds of virtual go-fast rides available for gamers to pilot in the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 video game.
